About Mia
Born and raised in Virginia Beach, Mia developed her love for fashion watching her mother spend hours at the sewing machine. Her personal style and fashion savvy inspired Mia to begin sewing for family and friends. She selected Fashion Marketing as a high school elective and continued to nurture her gift at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), graduating with a degree in Fashion Merchandising Management.
Mia immediately set her career in motion, landing positions at some of the largest urban brands in the industry, including Sean John and AKADEMIKS. In 2007, she began her Atlanta story in the corporate offices at Bloomingdales/Macys. After years of experience in fashion and retail, she was motivated to launch her first online store, GEM Stylez Boutique.
Feeling a bit unfulfilled and yearning to create more of her own, in 2016, Mia launched Gigi Carreras, now MIA REID - a sexy, southern sophisticated line of dresses and separates for women. This new venture, originally named after her oldest daughter, opened new doors and a host of opportunities. Mia became one of 5 designers to win Belk’s Southern Design Competition in 2017, landing the collection in multiple stores nationwide. She later added Macy’s to her list of retailers.
The MIA REID Collection also includes a line of headwraps, inspired by a family member who was diagnosed with cancer. They are sold individually or as part of Cancer Cuties – a self-care box created to comfort cancer patients and women experiencing hair loss due to illness.
